Liz Seal Holistic Massage
I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce some of you to one of the ‘tools’ which I can use within a treatment to promote relief from muscle knots and deep-seated tension.
One of the questions on my consultation form asks about sensitivity to heat. This is because I often use hot stones to work deeper into the muscles, and where there is the need, I can also add cold stones into the routine. Using both, with a hot stone in one hand and a cold in the other, stimulates the circulation and works deeper into the muscles. Using the hot stones can expand the blood vessels, while the cold stones cause a dilation. This ‘pulsing’ action will stimulate the circulation, helping to flush toxins from the skin and muscles. This treatment can boost the immune system, and promote the release of prostaglandin, the hormone-like compounds which act as the body’s natural pain killer.
The addition of small cold stones within the facial routine feels amazing! Including the cold stones into the facial soothes the skin and assists with sinus congestion, bringing relief from sinus pain, headaches and hayfever.
The hot stones are smooth basalt which retains the heat while in use, while the cold stones are polished marble.
If you suffer with high blood pressure or any condition which could cause a loss of sensation, including some auto-immune illnesses, this must be discussed during our consultation, as the stimulating effect of using the stones could compromise your conventional treatment.
If you would like to talk to me about using hot and cold stones in your treatment, please get in touch. Adding a cold stone facial to your treatment is a wonderful way to add an extra level of luxury and leave you feeling refreshed and revitalised.
