Liz Seal Holistic Massage
July is here, not that you would be very sure of that if you are outside today! This summer seems to be on something of a ‘shall we or not’, as far as summer weather is concerned. The sunny spells have me reaching for summer sandals and strappy tops (usually with a cardigan handy, I think I just don’t believe that warmer weather will be here to stay….)
Summer sandals make me more aware of my feet, and how I need to show them some love and care. With that in mind, I thought I would tell you more about one of the treatment options I can offer to you.
Aromareflex is a foot treatment, developed to combine the power of reflexology with the balancing qualities of aromatherapy. In this treatment, I undertake a reflex assessment of the feet to gain a deeper understanding of the energy flow around the body, detect any areas of blockage and encourage the body to repair. I then blend a lotion or oil with essential oils to assist in this recovery and use this to massage the feet and ankles. This treatment can be deeply relaxing, so making sure my client is comfortable is a main priority. The main aim of the Aromareflex treatment is to bring about balance and relaxation, giving my client time and space to breathe, take a break from the stresses of their day and build resilience by strengthening the immune system.
Reflexology is a western treatment based on the Chinese medicine theory of ‘qi’ – the vital energy which flows around the body and maintains balance between the actions and reactions of the body. When this energy flow is blocked or inhibited, the organs of the body cannot function at full capacity and become sluggish or less effective. In Chinese medicine, various parts of the body are reflected in points or zones in the extremities, often mapped on the hands or feet. By applying gentle but firm pressure to these points, it is possible for the therapist to ‘feel’ an area of blockage. By stimulating these points, the therapist can relieve or free up the inhibited energy. Combining this pressure with the power of essential oils offers a boost to the action of touch and a deeper, more relaxing treatment.
Some people worry that having their feet touched will feel ticklish- be assured that the pressure of the reflex assessment is not a tickly feeling, and by using lotion or oil to massage the feel, the tickle sensors are kept at bay!
Warning…. Clients who come for an Aromareflex treatment often fall asleep…. Please don’t feel that you should apologise for this, I take your relaxation as a compliment! I look forward to giving you the time to unwind and take some time out of this busy life to Relax, Repair and Renew.
